Old Business

Charlotte Rueschenberg reported on the Unit Championship game to be held in Anniston, Birmingham and Montgomery on May 31st. Board members in other cities are requested to make sure that their club members know that they are invited to attend one of these games. They will all start at 12:00 noon with a potluck lunch. Hands will be pre-made and hand records will be available after the game. These games will be the kickoff for the summer North American Pairs games in an attempt to create interest in the NAP games.

A Unit-wide Swiss Team event is planned for the introduction of the Grand National Teams.

Bob Simkins noted that only one club has submitted a Sectional application for 2004. Sectional applications should be submitted at least one year in advance.

After a discussion about holding a Unit Growth Seminar, it was decided that the Unit will hold the seminar, probably in September or October.

Jean Reaves reported on the bridge classes she is holding in Auburn. She conducted 8 classes last summer and teaches them free at the University in the fall.

Nominating letters have been submitted to ACBL, nominating Bonnie Jung for the Goodwill Committee and Don Kemp for the Charity Committee. Nominating letters were written by Kris Oliver and Jack Hadder.

New Business

Doug Hoadley moved, seconded by Aaron Maryanow, that the Unit reimburse the Montgomery Bridge Club $612.80 for the cost of a new computer. Jo Ann Maddox noted that the computer had been needed due to continuing problems with their old computer. The new computer will also allow them to connect to the internet for submitting ACBL reports. The motion was approved unanimously.

The Unit 157 wishes to encourage clubs in the Unit to adopt a Zero Tolerance policy and to make all members aware of Zero Tolerance in clubs which adopt the policy. A link to the ACBL Zero Tolerance policy can be found at the Unit 157 web site.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Don Kemp, Secretary
Unit 157
